Yogesh Chandekar is an ex-advertising professional. He now writes for comics, animation and films. His latest work, a comic adaptation of Saif Ali starer AGENT VINOD is a the latest in the adult comic books that is doing the runs. After films like " Sholay", "Don" and " Ra.One" among others, it's "Agent Vinod" that is going the graphic way. While the books don't necessarily follow the exact series of events that take place in the movie, the tone of the novel and its characters is in sync with the film.
"The Jungfrau Encounter" as it is named based on the lead character. But the story is different. Thus, there is a degree of independence here and the plot varies. The 90-page graphic novel is priced at Rs 250.
Graphic Novels/Adult Comics are increasingly becoming popular in India. The recently-concluded World Book Fair in Delhi too saw a number of stalls dedicated to graphic novels. Jitendra Bhagnani, a Mumbai-based illustrator, was glued to the graphic novels based on the mysteries of Agatha Christie. "I like the way these stories have been depicted. The panelling and the colours are done very well," Bhagnani exclaimed as he browsed "Murder On The Orient Express" and "Ordeal By Innocence" - the Christie classics.
The Agent Vinod graphics are designed by Saumin Patel, a Mumbai-based independent illustrator specializing in graphic fiction, pre-production art and animation. He has worked with some of India’s leading filmmakers, ad agencies and TV channels and has had his work published internationally by renowned comic book studios and publications.
